Brief Background

From a Community Response to a Registered NGO

Tekere Girl Child Empowerment (TEGEM) is a women and girls-centered non-profit dedicated to empowering girls to realize their full potential. What began in 2004 as a community-based response to Tororo District's health and social needs evolved into a fully registered NGO in 2019.

We believe that when a girl is empowered, the entire community thrives — providing access to accurate information, life skills, and positive behavior change around Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Family Planning.
